Sanofi and Regeneron are stepping up their long-standing partnership. The companies are now investing in four new antibody drugs in a deal that could be worth up to $8 billion.

The French pharmaceutical giant will pay its US partner $1 billion upfront. Regeneron could receive a further $7 billion if certain development, regulatory and commercial milestones are reached.

Sanofi shares rose around 2 per cent in early trading following the announcement.

The four candidates target type 2 inflammation, the same area as the companies’ joint blockbuster Dupixent. One of them, REGN20423, is already in early clinical development for atopic dermatitis, while the other three are expected to enter clinical trials in 2027.
