Abbott has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for updates to its implantable heart monitoring system.
The medtech giant’s CardioMEMS device, first approved in 2014, is a small sensor implanted in the pulmonary artery to measure pressure and send notifications when heart failure worsens. As heart failure progresses, pressure in the artery between the heart and lungs can rise.
