AstraZeneca’s Enhertu is moving into earlier-stage breast cancer treatment after winning EU approval. In a phase III trial, the drug reduced the risk of invasive disease recurrence or death by 53 per cent compared with the current standard treatment.
This is the first time Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan) has been approved in the EU for early breast cancer in a curative-intent setting.
The approval is based on the phase III DESTINY-Breast05 trial, which showed that Enhertu reduced the risk of invasive disease recurrence or death by 53 per cent compared with T-DM1 (trastuzumab emtansine).
