According to the companies, more than USD 600 billion in pharmaceutical investments have been announced in the US and China over the past two years. Europe’s share of global pharmaceutical R&D has meanwhile declined from 43 percent in 1990 to 31 percent, while the share of commercial clinical trials has halved over a decade to 9 percent.
Pharmaceutical giants warn: Europe is losing investment
The chairs of AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Chiesi Group, Ipsen, GSK, Novo, Novartis, Roche and Sanofi warn in an open letter that Europe is rapidly losing competitiveness in pharmaceuticals.
