Leqembi, which was discovered by Swedish BioArctic and developed together with Eisai, was approved in the EU in April 2025, becoming the first treatment targeting the underlying causes of Alzheimer’s disease rather than its symptoms.
However, in April this year the NT Council (the Swedish Council for New Therapies) advised regions against offering the treatment, arguing that the cost was too high relative to the clinical benefit.
