Lilly’s obesity ads on the underground cleared by watchdog
Eli Lilly’s advertising campaign about obesity did not breach industry rules on advertising aimed at the general public, according to a ruling by the Swedish pharmaceutical industry’s Information Examination Board (IGN).
This autumn, passengers on the Stockholm underground have been greeted not only by the usual adverts for radio stations, the latest museum exhibitions and cinnamon buns from Pressbyrån, but also by obesity awareness ads from pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly.
“No one would tell someone with an allergy that it was self-inflicted,” the campaign’s message read, adding that obesity is a disease and should be treated as such.
