The study compared two doses of retatrutide – 9 mg and 12 mg – with Ozempic 2 mg in nearly 1,300 adults with type 2 diabetes. According to Eli Lilly, Ozempic 2 mg was chosen for the comparison because it is the highest approved dose for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

After 80 weeks of subcutaneous treatment, participants taking the highest dose of retatrutide had lost an average of 20.9 per cent of their body weight, compared with 9.4 per cent among those taking Ozempic. Weight loss with the lower dose of retatrutide was 19.5 per cent, Eli Lilly said in a press release.
